Chapter 1
Predict: I think the book will introduce all of the animals, as well as all of the characters.
Clarify:
-Tyrannise: rule or power over somebody in a cruel matter.
-Hindquarter: The back half side of a meat.
-Major is probably the leader of the pact just by the way he talks. He says things that a very intelligent person would, and he likes to talk for the group.
Try:
- Is Major either happy or sad?
-Is Major angry at his owners for making animals do labor work?
Use: Although I have never witnessed animals on a farm talking, I have seen a farm with many animals on it. So this first chapter made me think of all the times I have passed a farm, or have seen farm animals.
Summary: When Mr. Jones was finished with taking care of the animals, they got together and talked about what was happening at the farm. Old Major was the leader, and he was the main speaker at this meeting. He talked about his dream, and also what he wanted to change at the farm. He also said how mean humans were to animals. So, Major sung his song that was in his dream. All the animals loved it and started to shout and scream. Because of that, Mr. Jones woke up and shot his gun to stop the noise

Chapter 2
Predict: I think animals will be killed inside of the barn. I also believe that Mr. Jones will stay and the animals will never take over the farm. I also think that Mr. Jones will continue to treat the animals very poorly.
Clarify: The animals want to take control of Mr. Jones and his farm. The pigs teach and organize because they are the smartest. On the farm the animals feel like slaves. One day the animals notice that the milk disappeared. Animalism was about the commandments they made.
Try: Why does Mr. Jones drink all the time? Does he not care about his farm? How does Mr. Jones just forget to feed and milk the animals? Does he notice that the animals changed the name of the farm?
Use:I have heard a cow that hasn't been milked before just like the cows were howling and yelling when Mr. Jones forgot. I have seen people that drink a lot like Mr. Jones. I also know people that forget to feed animals just like Mr. Jones does when he drinks.
Summary: Major dies after a couple days from his speech . The pigs Napoleon and Snowball basically now run the animals Mr. Jones losses a law suit and becomes really drunk and his hired hands start to become lazy and one day the forget to feed the animals, this day starts the rebellion. Due to not being feed the cows then break into the storage and this sets the farmer and his hands off and they then begin to grab their whips and attack the cows which in return sets the animals off and starts the rebellion. Moses keeps talking about sugar mountain. Mollie wants to keep the ribbons so the animals decide to leave the building alone as a museum. The pigs claim to kow how to read and snowball changes the farm name to animal farm.

Chapter 3
Predict: I think a pig will die and the animals will not know what to do next. I also predict that Mr. Jones will take over the farm. I believe that he will quit drinking and actually take care of all of the animals in a correct and nice way.
Clarify: The animals figure out how to use human tools. The hardworking boxer does the most labor. I will work harder is his motto. All of the animals are going something to benefit the animal farm.
Try: Why is it best for the pigs to eat apples and drink milk? First, how do the pigs know how to teach reading and writing? Are they not afraid that Mr. Jones could go and shoot all of them?
Use: I have not listened to people before just like Snowball does not listen to anything Neopolean has to say in the meetings. I am also fluent in reading and writings just like the pigs are starting to be able to do.
Summary: The Pigs and other animals all try to learn how to read and write except only the pigs are fluent in reading and writing. Snowball makes committees but to no avail do they work. Snowball makes up a saying that four legs good two legs bad. This offends the birds up until Snowball tells them that wings count as legs. The animals find out that the pigs have been taking all the milk and apples and squealer of course uses his sliver tongue to convince the other animals that the pigs need the milk and apples to think well he also for good measure frightens them that if the pigs aren't thinking well Mr. Jones could come back.

the green flag the animals hung on the farm to celebrate their victory
boxer the strongest horse on the farm reminded me of a Clydesdale
All the animals trying to learn too read like the pigs reminded me of books
Chapter 4
Predict: I predict that Mr. Jones will fight the animals in order to get his farm under his control again. I also believe that some of the animals will leave and teach other animals from other farms. I think that some animals will accidentally kill other animals.
Clarify: Snowball sends flocks of pigeons to learn. While in a fight with humans, the farm animals only lost 1 sheep in battle. During the battle Boxer kills a boy and regrets it.
Try: Does Mr. Jones finally give up and leave the farm alone? Will other humans come and try to take over the farm? How do the animals know how to shoot guns? Who taught them that skill?
Use: I have heard on the new something how people are killed for no known reason just like when Boxer killed the boy. I have also witnessed hero burials in the military similar to how the sheep was honored.
Summary: Mr Jones is a drunken man and the neighboring farmers don't do anything to help him out. One day however Mr Jones gets some of the other farmers hands and goes to try and reclaim his farm. Snowball who has been studying Julius Caesar has come up with an ambush. The ambush is successful however one sheep is killed when Mr Jones tried to shot snowball. Mr. Jones ended up face first in a pile of mud and drops his gun and runs while boxer hits a stable boy thinking he killed the stable boy morning that he took a life the animals look for Mollie to find her hiding and when they go back to where the battle was they find out that the stable boy was still alive and ran off with the rest. The battle later is named the battle of Cow Shed. Boxer and Snow Ball receive medals for Heroic actions.

Chapter 5
Predict: I think that someone will leave the farm. I also believe that the animals will be taken over by other humans. The animals will finally realize that they are being taken advantage of by the other animals on the animal farm. I also do not think that they will build the windmill.
Clarify: Mollie is the burden on the farm. She does not do as much work as everyone else. A man comes by the farm and takes Mollie. Snowball has been gone a lot because he has been going and reading Mr. Jones' old books. Neopolean thinks that the windmill would be too difficult to build.
Try: Why do they keep Mollie around the farm for so long if she does not do any work? Why is Neopolean so against the windmill idea?
Use: I know people that act a different way then they seem just like Neopolean acts a different way around the other animals. I have also learned about windmills and how they produce electricity similar to what the animals what it to do when it is built on the farm.
Summary: Mollie becomes lazy and ends up leaving the farm for good to work for a man. Snowball and Napoleon are still at odds attempting to gain support in their own ideals both have their own strengths and weaknesses in gaining support. Snowball comes up with the idea of building a windmill from Mr Jones books. Napoleon is completely against the idea he evens urinates on the plans. The windmills purpose to provide comforts and less hard work for the animals as well as electricity. At one of the meeting as Snowball is talking about the windmill when Napoleon shirks and nine dogs attack and chase Snowball of the farm for good. Napoleon then cancels all meetings and stats that all important matters will be handled by the pigs. Later on Napoleon stats that they will build the windmill. Squealer explains that Napoleon was never against the idea from the start and that it was Napoleon that first thought of the windmill idea and that Snowball stole the idea from him.

The windmill Snowball wants the animals to build
The 9 dogs napoleon chased snowball off the farm with
when napoleon explained snowball being gone he lied and called him a liar and a criminal
Chapter 6
Predict: I think that they will finally start the windmill project. I also think that the animals will start becoming more like Boxer and work harder. I also believe that they might run out of food because they are too focused on the windmill.
Clarify: The animals keep changing the rules. With his new motives Boxer out works 3 horses. The animals struggle with the windmill because they can not use many tools. Mr. Whymper is nice to the animals and is the only human they trust. Anything Snowball does is bad and Neopolean is all good.
Try: How is everything always Snowballs fault? What makes the animals trust Mr. Whymper so much? How are they not running out of food on the farm.
Use: I have witnessed storms and I have seen things being knocked over just like the storm knocked over the windmill. Just like one of the rules on the farm I have slept without a bed and sheets before.
Summary: Rations get cut as work on the windmill begins. The windmill has many problems such as the rocks are too big for the animals so they break them into smaller pieces at the quarry by dropping bigger rocks on to them. The animals suffer but no more then they were when Mr.Jones was running the farm. Supplies such as iron, nails, and oil begin to run low so napoleon hires mr. whimper to help trade with humans for the goods and money the animals need. The pigs start living in the farmhouse and sleep on beds which was a violation of the commandments until the pigs or someone changed the rule to will not sleep in a bed with sheets. a storm comes and tears down the windmill. Napoleon blames snowball and offers a reward for who ever kills snowball.

the farmhouse the animals move into
The storm that knocked down the windmill
Chapter 7
Predict: I do not think that they will rebuild the windmill after it fell over from the storm. I also believe that the rules will stop changing.
Clarify: Humans do not think Snowball is at fault for the destruction of the windmill. Snowball claims that the walls of the windmill were not think and strong enough. Because of the blame, Snowball sells herself. The hens are also rebellious and refuse to sell their eggs. The animals motivation to rebuild comes from Boxer.
Try: Why is it bad to sing Beast of England? Is that really a rule? Did any of the animals fear Neopolean after he brought the dogs to the farm?
Use: I have heard about dogs attacking before just like the dogs attacked Snowball. I also know people that love to sing patriotic songs just like the animals love to sing The Beast Of England.
Summary: In January there was limited food. They decide that the windmill will be built again but two times thicker. Snowball left with Mr. Frederick to go to the Pinchfield farm. Neopolean brought dogs to attack any traitors like Snowball. The beast of England song is forbidden.

beasts of England song has been band
the windmill they decide to work all winter for and make twice as thick than the other one
Chapter 8
Predict: I think that animals will break out in war because of he constant rule change. I also think that the leaders will change and i will not be he pigs anymore.
Clarify: Rules keep changing, things are being added. Animals blame not knowing the commandments on their bad memories. Every time a rule is broken, they change it so they are right. What ever farm is the favored farm is predicted to be where Snowball went. The pigs teach the animals to hate Pilkington when the sale favors Frederick.
Try: When will they realize the rules keep changing? Why do they sell the wood instead of use it for there own needs.
Use: I have sold wood to people before just like the animals are trying to sell to other farms. I have also wrote poems about people like Mimimus wrote about Neopolean on the side of the barn.
Summary: Rules change because animals are killed. Neopolean is now the "leader". The animals sold Mr. Frederick timber that was left on the farm. On the farm the windmill gets finished. The animals finally realize that the money they got from the timber was fake. Mr. Frederick attacks the farm with armed men. He blows the windmill up with dynamite. Boxer gets hurt when Frederick's men attack. At the end the animals drink alcohol so the commandment was changed to " No animal shall drink alcohol to excess"

Chapter 9
Predict: I do not think that Boxer will be able to work because of his injury. I also believe that the school house will not be built for the piglets. I think that everything on the farm will be a disaster and the animals will give up.
Clarify: Boxer is in pain but refuses to take a day off. Boxer is also planning retirement. The horses are allowed to retire once they reach 12 years old. They have a shortage of food so everyone is gets a reduced amount of food except the pigs and dogs.
Try: Why did Napoleon not tell the other animals about the piglets until they arrived? Why will Boxer not take a day off? Why don't the animals make him rest?
Use: I have heard people chant before like the animals chant "4 legs good, 2 legs bad!' I have also heard about schools being built because there were a lot of kids that needed an education school in the area.
Summary: Boxer receives a protectant for his hoof. Napoleon's piglets were born so Napoleon demanded that they build a school house. The animal farm is officially a republic and Napoleon is elected president. Boxer collapsed while he was hauling stones and is sent to a glue maker. Boxer soon died. The animals were told that the letters on the side of the cart were a mistake and that he was sent to a hospital. Moses returns but they do not require him to work.

Chapter 10
Predict: I believe that animal farm will no longer exist because too may of the animals will die. I think they will combine with other farms. I also think that the animals will start to teach other animal the same skills that they have.
Clarify: The farm is never rich but the dogs and pigs are always well taken care of and had great lives. They never lose pride in animal farm. At the end the pigs play cards with the humans and some say you could not tell them apart.
Try: Who's idea was it to build a new windmill for milling corn? Why did only one commandment survive? Why didn't they just keep changing them?
Use: I have had a dream before about animals acting like humans similar to the pigs and how you couldn't tell the human apart from the animals. Just like Mr. Pilkington uses the animal farm ideas I also have used other peoples ideas to better an idea.
Summary: They are in the process of building a new windmill. All the commandments are gone except "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. Mr. Pilkington tells the animals about their accomplishments and that he has taken advice from him. The animals change the name of the farm back to Manor Farms.

Theme, Symbols, Motifs
Theme:
Power: After Jones is gone and Snowball is exiled by the dogs; Napoleon has achieved absolute power over the farm. There is no one else for the animals to look up, this allows Napoleon and the other pigs to live like kings without consequences. This theme reveals that we all have a desire to be powerful and a leader, but the way we handle the power can have serious consequences and shows what kind of person the individual in power is. Having full control and power, Napoleon realized he could easily become corrupt and no other animal could do anything. They take over the farmhouse, walk on two legs, and break many other rules that were first set in place. This theme of power also is achieved due to the low intellect of the animals on the farm. They are easily manipulated by the propaganda thrown out by Squealer and see Napoleon as a flawless, noble leader.
Violence: In the early days of the rebellion, and Old Major's dream was to only be violent toward humans to take control of the farm. It was written in the original commandments that no animal shall kill another. But once the pigs come into power and become corrupt, killing and injuring the other animals becomes almost an everyday occurrence. We see a large amount of violence when half a dozen animals come forth and commit to crimes they didn't commit and are ripped to shreds by Napoleon's dogs. Napoleon is able to dish out so much violence and still have the love of the animals through fear propaganda, and the hint, with the dogs, that violence is right around the corner if there is a revolt or someone is not happy with the conditions. The dogs serve two rules, Napoleon's bodyguard, but more importantly stand as a symbol of violence and put fear into the mind of the animals to allow the pigs to become even more corrupt. This theme of violence has a real world meaning in the Russian Revolution. Stalin used the KGB (the dogs in animal farm) to fear and kill people violence) that opposed his ideas.

Symbols:
Humans: human is a big symbol in animal farm because it shows how corrupt humans can become like later in the book when the animals started standing on there hind legs and then the other animals couldn't tell them apart from the humans
Windmill: The Windmill stands for the Russian industry that has been built by the working-class When Napoleon steals Snowball’s idea for a windmill the windmill can be considered a symbol of the Soviet Five-Year Plans a concept developed by Trotsky and adopted by Stalin, who, after banning Trotsky from the Soviet Union, claimed them to be his idea The failure of the windmill to generate the expected creature comforts and subsequent search for saboteurs is probably a reference to accusations and a show trial against British engineers who were working on electrification projects in the USSR
Song: song is another big symbol in this book because the power of song persuades the animals to do things

Mood
The mood you would think is happy and sad because Major dies but the animals are free from human abuse. Well that mood only lasts for a couple of the chapters. The real and probably intended mood would have to be rage. Its rage for a couple reasons but the main reason for rage is the fact that when the farmers come back to regain the farm the animals took over during the revolt there was a lot of fighting and rage
Tone
Sad: When Old Major dies everybody is sad and ends up living under his teachings.
Happy: When the animals win over the farm the animals rejoice and celebrate.
Angry: The other farmers were angry that the animals were capable of keeping a farm running.

Plot Line
Exposition: The story starts off at Manor Farm in England. The farm is ran by Mr. Jones and a few other men; but they do not run it well. Mr. Jones has a drinking problem and is drunk more times than not. Because of this, he forgets to feed and water the animals regularly, which he will regret. The main animals are all introduced: Old Major, Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer who are all pigs, Benjamin the donkey, Mollie and Boxer the horses. One day old major gathers every animal on the farm for a meeting. He starts to talk of a dream that he had and of his ideas on life. He goes on about how the animals should not be treated cruelly and that the humans should not have control over them. This gives everyone a sense of pride and they want to revolt against the humans and ran Manor Farm for themselves. Old Major dies a few days later and the revolution begins soon after.
